Meet the Dancers: Ludlow Ladies

Brea shakes it during "Fa La La"
I have worked with the "Ludlow Ladies" for several years. I first met Brea when she was 5. It was my first year teaching dance and she brought a ray of sunshine with her to every class. My sister, Cassidy, teaches Brea now and knows how fun it is to work with someone to is 100% herself all the time. "You never know how Brea is going to show up to class," Cass said, "She could be crazy, happy, silly, sad, anything. And really that's the fun of working with her." Brea is 8 years old now. She loves playing with friends, listening to her iPod, singing, and dancing.  She is a very special girl and loves everyone. Brea loves to perform and really puts on a show when she's on stage!

Brooklynn performs "Good Time"
Working with Brea, I met her family and came to love the people who help Brea be Brea everyday. Little did I know, that one day I would get to teach her older sister, Brooklynn, who I fondly refer to as my "Sanity Girl," she truly keeps me sane some days. She's only 11 years old, but I swear she is going on 18- and that we could be best friends in another life. After a long day in the studio, Brooklynn always brings me back to reality with her sassy and positive personality. She reminds me of what is truly important- having fun! Brooklynn's hobbies include dancing, hanging out with friends, roller skating, and most of all READING!!  She is a great big sister and loves to baby-sit her siblings and kids around the neighborhood.  She gets good grades and is looking forward to middle school.
Brea and Brooklynn are so unique but some things they share are beautiful smiles and gracious attitudes. Dancers who practice hard and perform without holding back, like the "Ludlow Ladies," are headed for success. Three cheers for two of my favorite students!
Ready for the recital!

Thanks to Natalie Ludlow for providing pictures and for sharing your girls with us.

Pinterest Inspiration Board

Check out my inspiration board, Glamour Us, on Pinterest. It's a place for beautiful hair and make up ideas that we can use at the studio. I wish I was talented enough to actually DO some of these styles, luckily I don't have to be.
What do you think of dance hair? Do you have a go to style? I would love any tips/tricks!

Attend Dance. 3 Things Your Dancer is Missing Out On

Get it? Today I'm thinking about attendance. Sometimes, I know, it is just not possible to get your dancer to dance... you're out of town, he/she is sick, scheduling conflict, I get it! But before you decide to let them miss for no reason, think about what THEY'RE missing:
  1. Choreography. Making up for missed choreography is SO hard, everyone else knows the dance but still time has to be spent re-teaching for just one dancer.
  2. Technique. Its the fundamentals that we practice week after week that build your dancer's ability. Each hour that she misses out on technique she is literally falling behind. The dancers that are in class are getting better by the hour.
  3. Discipline. The time that is spent in class is meticulous corrections, repetition, and encouragement. Dancers who force themselves to be in class each week have what it takes to succeed, to be on a team at the studio, high school, college, and professional level.
Don't let your dancer be the absentee! She's missing out on so much in the long run.

Meet the Dancers: Ansley

Ansley showing off in Chicago
Ansley and her brothers
Ansley is 6 years old. She loves to dance, color, play games (she has wicked Memory Match skills) and play with her kitty, Lucy. As a dancer, she is strong and flexible. As a student, she is wild and daring. As a sister, that's right she's my little sister, she is sweet and loving. At dance she gives lots of dirty looks and rolls her eyes but at home she's full of kisses and hugs.

She has two sisters and two brothers who let her sleep with them because she is scared of the dark and can't sleep alone. She likes bedtime stories, getting tucked in, and learning Spanish. She doesn't like brushing her teeth or cleaning her room.

DIY

Living in Cedar City, it is sometimes hard to get the things we need for dance. Tights, costumes, shoes, everything has to be ordered in. That's where we get crafty. We have made our own accessories and props and had local seamstresses custom make our costumes.
